These are a few key points and some questions to consider to prepare for Banking Interviews. They are not exhaustive but if you’ve made the effort to apply for a banking job we are guessing it’s a bank job that interests you.
- Know who is interviewing you at the bank, what their role is in the bank and how your role fits with theirs, if at all.
- It’s so obvious it is almost painful to write – but leave plenty of time to get to the venue, be on time, and be presentable. Polish your shoes, clean your nails, avoid cups of garlic for breakfast!
- What are the technical areas of this banking job? Are you fully up to date, how does your previous role(s) qualify you for this bank opening?
- Where is the location for the job? If this is a banking job in London – and you haven’t had a London banking job before, think through what such a move means for you (and your family) and be prepared to talk through it. Like wise if your considering a banking job in Scotland or you planning to take a Dubai banking opportunity etc, be prepared to show demonstrate you have thought through what this move means to you.
- This is perhaps only relevant to more experienced banking candidates – Think through who the banks competitors are and how the team you are thinking of joining are thought of in the market place. If you are applying for a bond sales job, or equity sales job for example this is particularly relevant.
- Having researched the bank, the interviewers, the opportunity, think through what you want to know from the interview. Joining a bank, this bank, or any specific financial institution should be a positive move for you, therefore help insure that by accepting the offer with your eyes wide open to the culture, the hours, work life balance etc.
